MarketPlaceBC is an online initiative of the Cariboo-Chilcotin region that was developed using the AgriFoodBC platform to enhance and expand the marketing and sale of agricultural products from producers to consumers.

Challenge

The organization was tasked with promoting agricultural commerce in the northern BC region. The region needed a cost effective way of connecting vendors in the region with potential buyers. Furthermore, many vendors did not have an online presence to better advertise themselves and sell their goods beyond traditional methods. In many cases, vendors lacked the experience or the resources to develop an online marketing presence.

Solution

A Craigslist-like board was designed to connect merchants with buyers. Users can now post for free if they want to buy or sell a product, service, equipment or transportation. The Market Exchange tool was integrated into the site so that users can visually see (via an automatically generated map) where vendors are located. In addition, a feature was developed to help merchants create a one-page profile that can be used as their online business card to better market themselves.

Results

The site is in development and the result is to come.
